It is a form of radiotherapy that generally consists of directing a single dose of radiation towards a malignant tumor or a functional disease such as trigeminal neuralgia or intractable cancer pain, as well as benign brain tumors. Intracranial radiosurgery (SRS), which is for brain tumors and other neurological disorders, may be performed; and extracranial radiosurgery, for tumors of the body. When indicated, it is ideal for patients who cannot be treated with conventional surgery or who are at high surgical risk. It is about performing surgery without a scalpel, non-invasive and ambulatory; with few or no complications. It is also known as radiation surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery.
